Back in 2001, people thought current Marketing Pulpit Founder, Robert Gatewood, was crazy when he started a one-man campaign to change the name of the Washington Football team. He sent out a press release (see original press release) and even teamed up with a Native American in Kansas to order to make his case. Only the Washington Times, who wrote an article in 2002 on the topic, that also featured former DC Councilwoman Carol Schwartz and David Reubenstein, took him seriously.  He took another stab at the problem in his 2008-published book “Played In Full” (page 36).

Now the President, religious leaders, sports announcers, a coalition of civil rights organizations, including the NAACP, Senator Harry Reid, and most recently the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office have all piled on. Gatewood has just one question … “what took you guys so long?” I guess it’s better late than never!

Gatewood will officially reiterate the request on Friday’s show at 10:30am.
